Since joining the Institute for Advanced Social Studies in 2001, his research has mainly focused on international migration to Spain, with special emphasis on public opinion about immigration, its evolution and its underlying causes, as well as the prerequisites and perspectives for social integration of the immigrant population. He has devoted several books on this subject, as well as numerous journal articles and reports. He is currently supervising a research project that looks into the reasons behind the comparatively quiescent attitudes to immigration and immigrants in Spain (CSO2017-87364-R).
